Rory McILroy thinks that Tiger Woods is unlikely to play golf this year, but supports the major champion 15 times to try a return after his last misfortune to injury.
Woods amazed the golf world on Tuesday after revealing that he had undergone an Achilles broken tendon while he was preparing to return to the competition golf, potentially with the masters next month in Augusta.
However, his injury, which generally requires several months of recovery and rehabilitation, burned his planned return and threw a shadow on the rest of the season.
Speaking on Wednesday on the eve of the first round of the players’ championship in Florida, the star of Northern Ireland McILroy expressed his sympathy for the fate of Woods.
“It sucks,” said McILroy about Woods injuries.
“He is not very lucky with regard to injuries and his body. Obviously, he was trying to come together to prepare for Augusta, and Achilles surgeries are obviously not fun.
“We will obviously not see him playing golf this year, and I hope we may see him playing in 2026.”
McILroy, however, believes that the woods fierce will do everything he can to be competitive when he finally returns to fitness.
“He’s going to try. I know he’s going to try,” said McILroy. “But that’s a question for him, not for me. I obviously do not know what is in his head. But to judge by previous behavior, he will certainly try.”
McILroy has thought about his own career as he is preparing for his last inclination during the masters next month – the only major championship missing from his US Open collection, British Open and two PGA championships.
The 35 -year -old said he said when the time had come to retire – and prefers to move away from sport before his shape begins to decrease.
“Whenever I have the impression that the time has come, I will have no problem moving away and letting the next generation do your thing,” said McILroy.
“When I made everything I want to achieve in the game and I arrive to the point where I don’t think I can do it. I would also like to leave with a little in the tank.
“I don’t want to be there. I would like to get away perhaps a little before I should.
“I think that if you can reconcile with it and leave according to your own conditions, then it’s a good thing.”
