Harry Brook faces a two-year ban on the Indian Premier League after having withdrawn from this year’s competition for personal reasons in a decision that could open the way to become the new White-Ball captain in England.

Brook, who had a contract worth approximately £ 550,000 with the capitals of Delhi, is now withdrawn from the competition for two consecutive years and should be prohibited for the following two IPL seasons after the competition introduced penalties for players who withdraw after signing contracts.

By withdrawing from the competition, Brook – which previously appeared in IPL 2023 – made a prolonged break before an excited year. England will face India in a series of five tests in summer before the ashes start in Australia.

After the resignation of Jos Buttler, Brook, 26, is also the favorite of the post of captain in England. By releasing time in his schedule, Brook could now be better placed to be able to commit to directing the limited teams in England.

Brook’s decision also guarantees its availability for the opening test of the summer of the summer, against Zimbabwe on May 22. England previously agreed that all players who are always involved in the last stages of the IPL will be allowed to continue playing the tournament, and who would therefore miss the test match.

In a press release published on Instagram, Brook said: “I apologize without reservation to the capital of Delhi and their supporters.”

The drummer added: “With the advice of people I trust, I took the time to seriously consider this decision. It’s a really important moment for cricket in England and I really want to get involved in preparing the next series. To do this, I need time to recharge myself after the busiest period of my career to date.

“I know that everyone will not understand, and I do not expect them to do it, but I have to do what I think is good, and play for my country remains my priority and my concentration. I remain extremely grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me and the support that I receive. »»

Brook’s decision will be angry with Delhi, who had signed him after having withdrawn last year, after the death of his grandmother. The IPL franchises have gathered to dissuade the players from withdrawing from the competition.

In a note to the franchises last September, the IPL board of directors said that “any player who registers for [an] The auctions and, after being chosen at auction, is unavailable before the start of the season will be prohibited from participating in the IPL / IPL auction for two seasons. ” The only exception of the competition is for “an injury / state of health, which must be confirmed by the [player’s] Home Board ”.
