George Mills won a second European silver medal following the indoor championships in Apedoorn.

The 25 -year -old, who is the son of the former English footballer Danny Mills, had to be satisfied with second place behind the Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 3000 meters.

It was a rehearsal of the outdoor championships last summer in Rome, where Mills lost against Ingebrigsen in 5000m.

Having extended the ground, Mills hung on when he was overwhelmed by his rival and, although the distance increased during the last round, the British athlete has comfortably crossed the line in second position.

“When Jakob arrived, I knew it would happen at one point,” said Mills on BBC Sport.

“Four hundred (meters), I thought it was a little early to try to defend. I thought: “Ok, I will sit down and see if I can attack on the right house”. Unfortunately, he moved away but I think I saw the chronometer that it was only a difference of a second and I think it was 1.2 in Rome, so I get closer. »»

On his silver medal, he added: “Everything that was less would have been really disappointing. I guess I did the minimum of what I could, but I am obviously happy to leave with money, but I need to work more for the summer. “”

Mills were joined at the track by his father Danny, who said about to look since the touch: “It’s horrible, it’s really the case. I said so many times that it is like watching a shooting repeatedly repeatedly.

“The hour is absolutely terrible, I have painful hands again by hitting the boards. It’s difficult, but he absolutely gave it everything.

“A lot of respect for Jakob, he must be one of the best of all time. George builds all the time, becomes more confident, and I am sure that as soon as possible he will have his time. »»

There were also silver medals for Melissa Courtney-Buryant in the 3000m female and the female 4x400m relay team.

Courtney-Buryant entered the final as a favorite for Gold and led to the right house, but she could not retain Sarah Healy in Ireland.

“I must be happy, it is an upgrade of my two bronze medals but always looking for this gold, so I will be back to try to put this gold back,” said Courtney-Buryant, 31 years old. “I’m a little emptied, especially to lose it on the line.”

The Dutch star Femke Bol concluded the championships by anchoring the Gold’s home team at the 4x400m relay, with Amber Anning Crossing in second place for Great Britain.

After his disappointment to be disqualified during the individual event, Anning was not mistaken to rely on a strong performance by Lina Nielsen, Hannah Kelly and Emily Newnham, the quartet establishing a new national record of three minutes, 24.89 seconds.

“I did my best,” said Anning. “It’s difficult, we knew what we were faced with, but a great effort, a national record, I think we could not have closed it better.”

Elsewhere, there has been a fourth place for Jade O’Dowda in female pentathlon, Scott Lincoln in the male weight throw and the male 4x400m relay team.
